Gypsy the Greyhound
Met the lovely people from Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary and the most laidback dog in the world - Gypsy. You know a dog is comfortable in your presence when it rolls on its back with its legs in the air. Please visit their website even if you’ve never considered rescuing a greyhound. We would if we could and we will… soon.

Shostakovitch String Quartet No 8
I’m increasingly using music to inspire my art work. These are details from three pieces based on the powerful string quartet by Shostakovitch. I immerse myself in the music and let the emotion flow through from hand to marks on the paper. It’s relaxing, almost meditative and very satisfying. These studies are pieces in their own right to me and if I paint to the music again I’d probably create totally different results. We shall see.

Bull’s rush in where piggies fear to tread
Drawing rushes by the irrigation canal in between Lossiemouth and Elgin, I startled a stoat. I’m taking photos of butterflies that will be the basis for some paintings. Later I began drawing the pigs who got so spooked they flew squealing over the other side of the field. The next field of pigs were more friendly and posed for these sketches.

Great Spotted Woodpecker
Woody frequently visits my folks garden. I set up our tent facing the bird feeders a couple of days ago. Now the birds are used to it, my patience paid off with the chance to draw Woody along with other birds. He was wary at first hiding behind the tree but soon got the confidence to feed.

Waiting for Woody
I put our tent up in my folks garden facing the bird feeders where the Great Spotted Woodpecker regularly turns up. He’s too smart and I could hear him calling round about, but at first didn’t show up. I managed to capture quite a few other birds while I waited.

Meconopsis - Himalayan Poppy
Visiting my mum in hospital today after her knee operation. Rather than take flowers, I’ve drawn her one of her favourites from the garden.
