Here’s my first drawing of 2011 - a pen and charcoal sketch of the home of our New Year hosts and old friends A&L in Carnoustie. Sitting outside on New Year’s Day to sketch this was a chilly drawing session, but worth the effort I think.

Christmas Storytime at Lossiemouth Library
Had fun doing my Rolf Harris of the North impersonation on Saturday at the Christmas Storytime & Carols at Lossiemouth Library. I drew Mary & Joseph arriving at the inn onto my pre-prepared painting and illustrated stories including Kipper’s Snowy Day by Mick Inkpen and The Puzzled Penguin by Keith Faulkner & Jonathan Lambert. I forgot the words to Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer. My sparkly hat (a nod to the Aussie master) went down well. No children cried as they did in my pirate gear earlier in the year!

Waiting for Waxwings
While hanging about in the hope of seeing waxwings today, I drew the sea buckthorn and one of the gannets that was diving into the sea. I heard the seal snorting before I saw his head bobbing about in the water.
